Grain Malunga, Member of Parliament for Chikhwawa North and former Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Environment (June 2009 – August 2011), has written about how to stimulate Africa’s mining sector, published online by Malawi Voice.

Malunga is one of the most qualified parliamentarians in the mining sector. He worked as a geologist for the Geological Survey Department of Malawi between 1986 and 2002 and Director of Mines between 2002 and 2004. Earlier this year, he published the book Earth Science and Human Geography in Malawi and he is a fellow of the UK Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

In the short piece, which provides little new insight for readers conversant in the mining sector, he focuses on the importance of establishing effective institutions and legislative frameworks.
