The Association of Environmental Journalists (AEJ) in Malawi announces the call for entries for the 2017 GREEN MEDIA AWARDS. This is the second time successful members of AEJ will be awarded specially designed trophies to recognize and reward those who have published and produced broadcast stories on diverse environment issues.
Motivation
The motivation of the Green Media Awards is to promote and sustain reporting on the environment in Malawi and accelerate the agenda for sustainable utilization of Malawi’s natural resources.
Eligibility
The awards are open to published and aired content in print, radio, television and online media. Only journalists who are paid up members of AEJ are eligible to enter the competition.
As a way of encouraging competition, diversity and inclusiveness non members willing to participate in the awards are required to pay an entry fee of MK 5,000. The competition is open to individuals and not media institutions or organizations except where such is indicated.
Members are required to submit one story per category and are eligible to participate in a maximum of three categories.
Submission of entries
The entries shall be published/broadcast content by a recognized media institution within or outside the country in the year 2016 through to July 30, 2017. All entries shall be accompanied by an entry form.
All entries to be submitted online or to the address indicated below after filling the registration form available on request.
Languages
Entries for the competition shall either be in Chichewa or English language.
Categories
Entries should cover the following sectors of the environment:
- Climate Change
- Energy
- Waste Management and Pollution
- Disaster Risk Reduction
- Forestry
- Fisheries
- Water and Sanitation
- Wildlife
- Agriculture (nutrition, irrigation, etc.)
- Sustainable Mining/ extractive industries
- Mining governance
And general categories:
- The Green Photojournalist of the year
- The Green Media House of the year
- The Green Documentary
- The Green Online piece
- The Green Investigative/Accountability award
Adjudication
Selection of the best entries will be decided upon by an adjudication panel identified by
AEJ Secretariat from the media, academia, civil society, development partners and government. (5 Members)
The adjudication of the panel shall be final and only the winners will be notified.
Winners and prizes
All winners will be announced and given modest prizes and unique trophies at a Green Media Awards Gala Night in the last quarter of 2017.
Adherence to Copyrights:
All entries submitted must be original work of the authors and in conformity with copyright requirements and laws.
AEJ will use the articles for the promotion of the organisation and not any commercial purposes without the consent of the author.
Target
Entries submitted should be those published or broadcasted between January, 2016 through July 2017 and should reach AEJ Secretariat not later than by 24 th August, 2017.
Materials should be in accessible format, i.e (Videos on in MP4 format on DVD or Memory Chip, Audios in MP3 format, printed online stories should include Universal Resource Locater (URL), hard copies of news or published feature articles in case of print work)
